Blakes Organic Chocolate

Blakes Organic Chocolate founder, Denise Gleeson is the ultimate Entrepreneur. The epitome of multitasking, this amazing lady is busy celebrating a successful year in business, whilst running a 66 acre farm with her husband Hugh.
The name Blakes emanates from Denise’s own heritage. Her family farm is located on the former Blakes Estate, dating back to 1850. Blake is also one of the fourteen tribes of Galway. Denise has always believed in “organic” as a way of life, encompassing food production, taste, care of the environment and health ethos. Currently, even the farm is in organic conversion status. Such was her passion, while pregnant with her second child, she sourced all the raw ingredients herself, whole cane, raw cane, cocoa, milk, almonds, yoghurts. Being loyal to fair trade, the beans are from small Latin American traders in the Dominican Republic, the sugar from a small farm in Peru. As she says herself “I wanted Blakes to have soul”. She then chose a small, personable firm in Switzerland to manufacture, because her research confirmed, the Swiss were renowned for fine chocolate.
Blakes is stocked nationwide in a variety of retail health food stores, specialist shops, delicatessens, restaurants and gourmet outlets. Denise’s distribution network is second to none, incorporating airports and outlets in the UK and Ireland including Fresh and Wild, Planet Organic, It’s a Bagel, Morton’s, Mc Cambridge’s, Donnybrook Fair and Superquinn to name but a few. Her innovative second year plan includes a drinking chocolate and a chocolate box of miniatures.
