Organic Trust launch Ireland’s first organic standards for health and organic beauty products

In yet another ‘first’, the Organic Trust are delighted to announce the launch of Ireland’s first organic health and organic beauty products standards.

In recent years consumers have expressed growing levels of concern regarding the origin and safety of the ingredients in the vast range of health and beauty products available within the marketplace.  Those companies who have responded to this concern by re-formulating their health and beauty products and submitting them for organic certification have been rewarded for their foresight and ethical responsibility through vastly increased levels of sales.

Internationally the move to certify these new entrants into the organic market has not been a smooth one. Many certification bodies in their rush to fill this void have allowed the inclusion of practices and ingredients that have not been wholeheartedly endorsed by many Organic consumers. As a result the Organic Trust painstakingly researched worldwide ‘best practice’ before finalising their Health and Beauty Products standard – ultimately arriving at a standard which addresses consumer concerns and allows the Organic Trust to organically certify Health and Organic Beauty products with confidence.

The Organic Trust’s research into ‘best practice’ in the certification of organic health and beauty products took many forms:

• The Organic Trust examined the vast range of international Standards for Natural as well as Organic health and beauty products.
• Carried out a consultative process with industry stakeholders at home and abroad to ensure that the Organic Trust Health and Beauty Products Standards were relevant to prevailing production processes in the industry
• Carried out individual ingredient and process analyses to assess their suitability for inclusion in the Standard
• Employed expertise in the field of cosmetic science to verify the findings of the research undertaken.

The response from the industry in the domestic marketplace to the launch of the Organic Trust’s new Health and Beauty Products Standard has been remarkable! The Organic Trust is delighted that a number of market leaders have already commenced the process of organic certification with our organisation. 

The Irish consumer can look forward to very shortly seeing Irish-certified Organic Health & Beauty products on the shelves – products which will carry the Organic Trust’s guarantee of organic origin and reflecting consideration for the environment in which we live.
