Internationally-renowned chef, Alice Waters, unveiled plans for Terra Madre Ireland 2008, a one-day, all-island food policy conference and four-day gastronomic festival which will be held for the first time ever in this country later this year

Influence food policy

Slow Food Ireland, part of Slow Food International, is hosting a 4-day all-island food, business, social and cultural event for producers, stakeholders and the general public. The centre piece of the Food Festival is a one-day Terra Madre (Mother Earth) conference of workshops, where the concerns of various food communities and their vision for the future will be debated. This is the first time so many stakeholders in the Irish food industry, from primary producers to consumers, will all be under one roof and it promises to be a truly historic occasion. Not to be missed.

A festival of food

Around the main conference will be a full programme of food-related events in Waterford city and its environs, including a garden banquet, tours of artisan food producers in neighbouring counties, cookery demonstrations, food tastings, competitions and a huge farmer’s market. Local bars and restaurants will also play their part by supplying special festival taster menus full of local ingredients. To view the full programme of events click here . As well being a fantastic social occasion the festival will provide opportunities to network with the most influential people in the Irish food business.
