Good Herdsmen Ltd

Good Herdsmen Ltd
The largest dedicated organic meat processor in the British Isles
Good Herdsmen was founded in 1989 with the aim of coordinating the supply of Irish organic lamb and beef to the retail and catering trade. There were only a handful of organic pioneers spearheading the organic meat sector in Ireland at that time but today more than 200 organic farmers form the supply base of the company.
In 2004 a dedicated organic meat plant was built in Cahir, Co. Tipperary, in order to facilitate the different demands of retailing and catering customers in Ireland and abroad. This is currently where the meat matures until it reaches its optimum quality. Selected use of advanced technologies provide a full spectrum of processing and packing facilities. Full traceability and HACCP schemes are in operation - the abattoir is EFSIS approved.
Beef, being Ireland’s Number 1 organic product, is the most important Good Herdsmen product category, either sold as primal, retail pack or as processed organic burger. This is followed by lamb, pork and chicken to complete the organic meat range which can be seen in more detail on the company web site.
Driving forces in Good Herdsmen are the directors John Purcell and Josef Finke, both with a long-standing involvement in the organic sector.
