EU Organic Logo Competition - Calling all Art & Design Students in Ireland!!!
News | 03 Jun 2009
The EU Commission as part of their review of Organic Standards has decided that a single EU Logo for all pre packed organic food would be of benefit to the organic sector as a whole.

While an EU Organic Logo is already in existence, its use was not compulsory and it achieved limited success. The new logo, however, will be a mandatory requirement on all organic produce from July 1 2010.
Therefore, the Commission has decided that the best way to find a popular & easily recognisable logo is to ask European Art & Design students through an open competition to design a logo for Europe. The competition is open to art & design students who are over 18 and registered with a university or college in one of the 27 EU Member States. Entries must be submitted electronically.
All the details for the competition can be found at http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/organic/logo/competition/competition_en.htm. The closing date for entries is June 25th 2009 so time is of the essence!
There is no charge to enter the competition - a shortlist of designs will be selected by a panel of experts and will be published on the web to allow people within the EU to vote for the design of their choice.
The Organic Trust has always led the way in new developments in the sector, but alas on this occasion we have not formulated the qualifying criteria, so this time it’s up to you.
The winner of the competition will see their design grace the fronts of bottles, bags and cans all over the world. It will be the single identifying mark for organic produce within the 27 EU Member States, and once again Ireland has an opportunity to be at the heart of change in Europe.
Apart from the ‘glory’ there are monetary prizes - 6K Euro for the winner, 3.5K Euro for the runner-up and 2.5K Euro for third prize.
The Organic Movement needs a logo to be proud of!! We know you can do it, so get designing today!!! Let Ireland lead the way in this very important and high profile area.
